Lombard Romanesque masterpiece. Two bell towers behind and corridors of the both sides in front of the facade characterize it.
Inside is very beautiful with white walls and red bricks.
Taking a metro of the green line (linea 2), get off at the stop of Sant'Ambrogio. The church is situated just right in front of the exit of the metro.
The construction of this masterpiece of Lombardy Romanesque church was begun at the end of the 4th century. It's known as the oldest church in Milan. Indeed it's solemnly beautiful Romanesque church of the Middle Ages. It had been renovated many times. For example, its beautiful plaster ceilings and walls built in the 9th century are original works of the famous architects of the time. Especially the entrance corridor has a solemn atmosphere as if it welcomes visitors calmly.
Inside the church you can see the altar with crafted gold and a relief depicting Christ and St. Ambrose. The holy atmosphere seems quieter than other churches.
Behind the altar the mummy of the Archbishop is visible through the glass. Still now he is very popular as a guardian of Milan among the locals.
