Amalfi
Amalfi is a very vibrant but simple town.
Now it has become one of my favorite places in Italy.

The Most beautiful coast in the world

The coastline of 40 kilometers from Sorrento to Salerno in the Campania region (southern part of Naples), is called "Costiera Amalfitana". It's said the world's most beautiful coastline. This coast overlooking Tyrrhenian Sea and Gulf of Sorrento was registered on UNESCO's World Heritage list in 1997.

The coastline is very narrow and curvy, and from the bus window you can see the spectacle of the natural cliffs. Running through the narrow curves, you must feel like riding a roller coaster. When you ride on the bus, consider the direction of the bus and let's grab a seat on the ocean side! You can enjoy the steep cliffs, lush green mountains and a beautiful cobalt blue sea.

Jewel-like towns of the Amalfi Coast

The coastline is dotted with beautiful towns. These towns "sticked" on the steep cliffs are very cute, as if they would be standing firm not to fall into the sea. . . A plenty of pastel colored houses in the area can make you very happy.

From Sorrento to Salerno, many gemmy towns are followed continually; Positano, Praiano, Furore, Amalfi, Ravello , Minori, Maiori, Vietri sul Mare.
Near to Conca dei Marini, in western Amalfi, you can visit also strange but beautiful caves called Grotta di Smeraldo.

Ocean City Amalfi

Amalfi has actually ancient origins, dates back to Roman times. Being on the sea and convoluted coastline was suitable to prevent the entry of enemies. On AC 839 this town had obtained the independence from the Duchy of Naples and had become the Duchy of Amalfi. After that they'd dominated the Mediterranean sea as a center of commercial trade in Italy. Later, other ocean cities like Venice, Genoa and city-state of Pisa were getting more powerful, and Amalfi's prosperity ended with the invasion of Pisa. In 1343, unfortunately the hard storm destroyed the most part of the town and the land sunk into the sea.

Now this town is famous for its warm weather, beautiful streets, scenic views and attracts many people from all over the world as one of the best resorts in Italy.

Origin of the Amalfi Coast is the town of Amalfi

The starting point for sightseeing on the Amalfi coast will be the town of Amalfi. The entrance to the town is in front of the arrival port of bus or boat. On the right side you can see the stairs to the beautiful cathedral with a vibrant square below it.

The town is small enough for walking and you can enjoy many stores and souvenir shops. It's very interesting to explore the back streets like maze made by white buildings. The town is almost traffic free so you can stroll the town in peace.

Advice from who lives in Italy

Amalfi coast is very very beautiful so I recommend you a long stay. If only one night, you would regret it!! You can feel a thrilling ride on the bus, stay in a luxury hotel, and enjoy the delicious local cuisine. It's fun just to walk through the town and relax at sea.

Amalfi Coast has beautiful towns everywhere, but the town of Amalfi is a favorite. Starting from Amalfi, to visit other towns such as Positano and Ravello is recommended.
