In Venice mainland there are only quite expensive hotels.., a little bit higher than other cities even in the low season. Therefore, it's recommended to stay outside of the mainland. For example I use one Hotel on the Lido Island. It costs about half of the average price of hotels on the mainland! The public water buses run until 01:00 am so there is no problem about dinner on the mainland at night.

During the Carnival and the Film festival season, also the price of hotels of the Lido Island rises extremely. In this case, you can find a good hotel in Mestre (Venezia Mestre). It's one station before Venezia Santa Lucia (terminal station). It takes only 10 minutes by bus and by train to the Venice mainland. You can also enjoy two cities staying in Padua, 30 minutes from Venice by train.

Let's stay "wisely" in Venice where hotels are expensive, and let's enjoy good food!!!

There is also cheap Youth Hostel in Venice!

On the Giudecca Island there is a Youth Hostel (YHA Ostello Della Gioventu') of Venice. The room is used in common but it costs 20 euros per night. To go to the Giudecca Island, take a vaporetto (water bus) of No. 82. (May 2007)
