Essential for Roman tourists! "ROMA PASS"

RomapassROMA PASS Euro 25 (ROMA PASS)

RomapassROMA PASS. You can purchase a box kit. Inside there is a set of tickets and maps. It's very useful.

"Roma Pass" is a reasonable discount ticket for tourists in Rome. Since it has been launched just since 2006, it's not widely known. However, it's very convenient and affordable. Another discount ticket "Roma & Piu' Pass" was abolished in 2010.

Valid for three days! What is special?

This Roma Pass costs 25 euros (prices revised in 2010). Please see this list of discounted service. You can understand that this pass has a big advantage!

  • Valid for 3 days (for public transportation it's valid until 24 o'clock of the third day)
  • 2 entrances of the museums in Rome which you visit for the first are free
  • Discounted entrances of all other museums in Rome after the first 2 entrances
  • Unlimited ride of the city buses in Rome (ATAC Corporation)
  • Unlimited ride of Metro line A and B
  • Free ride of Roma-Lido line, Roma-Pantano line and Rome-Viterbo line
  • However, it's not available for FR1 line connecting the airport and Termini station in Rome, for Leonardo Express train, and COTRAL's intercity buses (Urbani)

Let's see how many deals this pass has. For example, you start your sightseeing from the Roma Termini station. Take a metro line B (1 euro) to the Coliseum, and visit the Coliseum Palatine Hill (11 euros). Then take a metro line B and A (1 euro) and go to the Flaminio Station to visit already booked Borghese Gallery (8.5 euros).

This route takes about a half day, and costs totally 21.5 euros. With the Roma Pass, you can do the same thing at free (booking fee of the Borghese Gallery is not covered).

It's also possible to save time to buy tickets!

There is also another useful aspect. You don't need to make a long line in order to purchase each ticket. Coliseum has always the longest queue in Rome to purchase the entrance ticket, but here there is a private entrance for Roma Pass holders. It's necessary to wait for the first line (security check) but here you can pass easily. Then, you'll see a long long line of those who have to buy the ticket. However, there is an entrance with a large sign of "Roma Pass" before the entrance for groups. In brief, you can save at least 30 minutes.

Where can I buy Roma Pass?

It's possible to buy at tourist information, museums where the Roma Pass is available. One of the famous ticket offices is at the side of platform 24 inside the Roma Termini railway station platform number 24. Here you can also pay by credit card.
It's also possible to get the pass at the tourist office at the arrival gate C of the Fiumicino Airport.
From 2009 you can purchase it also on the official website, but in this case you need to go to pick up at one of the ticket offices.

How to use the Rome Pass

Roma Pass is like a cardboard ticket and a barcode is printed on the back.
It's need to specify a start date of using and your name in the indicated space. Then, when you use the metro and bus for the first time, check the magnetic part under the marking machine. At that moment the IC chip records the start date of using. At museums a staff will check your card by the barcode on the back. At the Coliseum gate, there is an automatic machine like metro.
Additional information from a tourist: if you visit the Borghese Gallery in Rome as the first or second museum for free entrance, its booking fee is not needed.
