How to reach Orvieto

Orvieto is located on the main railway between Rome and Florence. Therefore it's very convenient to visit. From Rome or Florence there is one train per hour, it's enough near to enjoy a day trip.

If you would like to enjoy a slow travel, it's recommended to stay in Orvieto and visit Rome or Florence in a day.
Since Orvieto is a safe and quiet town, when you come back from the bustle of big cities like Rome and Florence, you can relax in the evening. Orvieto is a small and safe town so it's good to walk around at night.

At the railway station of Orvieto, there is no locker room for your luggage. Bud don't worry! You can find a poster about luggage service for travelers. There are some deposit places in a few minutes walk from the station.

Cable car (Funicolare)

Cable car of Orvieto

To go up to the center of Orvieto (Old Town), Funicolare (cable car) is used. In front of the Orvieto railway station, there is an entrance of Funicolare of 580 meters in length and 157 meters in height. It reaches to the center of Orvieto in about 3 minutes.

The current cable car was produced as the same design and features, which had been moved by water power in the 19th century. It goes up thorough the hollow tunnel in the rock, and arrives on the historic town center (centro storico).

The cable car runs every 10 minutes from 7:20 am to 8:30 pm on weekdays, including Saturdays. On Sundays and holidays from 8:00 am to 8:30 pm runs every 15 minutes.

The common ticket with mini bus in the town costs 0.90 euros. In the evening, after the last cable car, there is bus service to the top till 23:55.
The ticket of Funicolare is valid without no limit in one hour after your first ride.
